Key Benefits

BENEFITS OF SUREGROUND™ OVER TRADITIONAL AGGREGATE DESIGNS AND SOIL STABILISATION

%

CARBON EMISSIONS REDUCTION

A reduced number of vehicle movements decreases the output of carbon emissions and greenhouse gases. Contribute savings to the carbon targets of your scheme or organisation and reverse climate change.

%

COST SAVING

When compared with traditional aggregate designs, project cost savings can exceed 30%. Additional savings are obtained through a reduction in preliminary costs associated with programme reductions. Surface Armouring designs offer further cost savings of 25% over a two-year lifetime.

%

NO MATERIAL SENT TO LANDFILL

SUREGROUND™ is used to increase the structural and load bearing properties of in-situ site won soils, meaning they can be utilised for construction on site rather than being transported to landfill with a waste carrier’s license. A wide range of contaminants can be successfully encapsulated on site rendering them both safe and suitable for foundation layers.

%

PROGRAMME REDUCTION

A single gang can enhance an area of 3,000m2 or half a kilometre of haul road per day. Multiple teams can be mobilised to complete areas exceeding 10,000m2 per day subject to programme requirements. This is achieved through the use of unique plant and processes, reducing the number of operations required to complete works. A reduced reliance on aggregate means programme is not dictated by the delivery of raw materials.

%

LAYER DEPTH REDUCTION

Through the use of in-situ site won material the thickness of any aggregate layers is reduced considerably. Subsoils are enhanced to a depth as low as 320mm meaning a far reduced volume of soil is disturbed when compared with traditional stone designs, which can exceed depths of 500mm at comparative strength specifications. When combined with Sustainable Decommissioning, there is no long-term effect on soil. This improves cost and environmental metrics.

%

VEHICLE MOVEMENT REDUCTION

The number of vehicles required to undertake works is considerably reduced, this decreases congestion and local community interruption. Health and safety improvements are obtained on site as less heavy vehicle movements take place in the area, there is a reduced need for large stockpiles and the requirement for tipping plant is reduced.

%

AGGREGATE IMPORT REDUCTION

Traditional aggregate designs use significant quantities of both quarried primary and recycled aggregate. Primary limestone has the ability to leach its lime content into soils over a project life time seriously affecting pH values. Recycled aggregates often contain many unknown contaminants. SUREGROUND™ uses far reduced quantities of primary aggregate, no recycled aggregate and contains no lime. The aggregate from surfacing layers is recycled at decommissioning stage.

%

PLASTIC FREE

Geosynthetic materials made from non-recyclable plastics are not required when using SUREGROUND™. Traditional aggregate designs often require more than one layer of plastic geosynthetics which are hard to remove at decommissioning stage and is often left within soils; this has negative effects for both the local ecosystem and future soil quality.

Improved H & S
IMPROVED HEALTH & SAFETY

The number of plant items and processes interfacing with site personnel and the public is reduced. Management of on-site health & safety is improved throughout the installation operation and surfaces are less susceptible to rutting or potholes which can be the cause of injuries. Ankle sprains are one of the most common causes of absenteeism for site staff within the United Kingdom.
